Gynecological Exam

During your annual gyn exam, your doctor or other health care professional will perform a number of important tests. These test include a Pap smear and a clinical breast exam.

In addition, a large number of women also learn about their birth control options, and about how to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). If you are sexual active then you may be at risk for an STD. A gynecological exam is a good time to get tested and to receive treatment if needed. Approximately 1/3 to 1/4 of females between the ages of 16-24 years old have Chlamydia. We suggest that if you are sexually active or have been in the past, that you get tested for chlamydia. Women who also think that they might be pregnant or would like to plan a pregnancy a gyn exam will better prepare you.
