Student Health Services strives to provide the necessary services to meet the ambulatory health needs of our student population. We have a full-service lab providing in-house testing for hematology, urinalysis, microbiology and serology. Lab tests not performed by Student Health Services are sent electronically to an outside lab and results are returned electronically to Student Health Services.
All students enrolled in classes at UNCG are eligible for laboratory and x-ray services. Procedures performed by the lab do have charges associated with them. The amount of the charge will vary by procedure and whether or not the student has paid the university student health fee. Charges are placed on the students’ account if not paid the day of service. All services performed by the laboratory and x-ray are inclusive and students will not be charged for the reading of any results by a physician at Student Health Services. When checking out you will be given a copy of all the charges assessed during your visit. This statement can be used to file for reimbursement from your insurance carrier (this varies by company and policy type). However, if you have purchased the University Health Insurance plan, your charges will be filed by Student Health Services.
Orders for lab work or x-rays can be brought in or faxed to Student Health Services as long as it meet our requirements (it is ordered by a licensed health care provider on letterhead or prescription with all necessary information relevant to procedure).
Most procedures performed at Student Health Services are completed within 20 to 30 minutes or less. However the time it takes for a provider to discuss them with the student may take longer. Most reference laboratory tests (send out tests) are back in 1 to 3 days but may take longer depending on the procedures. X-rays are usually read by a Student Health Services provider at time of service but the final reading by the radiologist may take 24 to 48 hours.
Copies of laboratory and x-ray reports and actual copies of x-rays (on CD) can be made and released with proper consent of the patient. Copies of x-rays on CD do incur a charge.
Our laboratory is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care) and COLA. These accreditations mean that we hold the highest standards and we value the qulaity of service we provide.
