In addition, a large number of women also learn about their birth control options, and about how to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). If you are sexual active then you may be at risk for an STD. A gynecological exam is a good time to get tested and to receive treatment if needed. Approximately 1/3 to 1/4 of females between the ages of 16-24 years old have Chlamydia. We suggest that if you are sexually active or have been in the past, that you get tested for chlamydia.
